In contemporary art, more and more artists are striving to merge fashion and painting. Alisa Tonoyan’s works are prime examples of this unique fusion, where clothing, bags, and everyday items are transformed into living pieces of art. She is an Armenian artist designer from Yerevan.

Her creations intertwine fairytale worlds, modern culture, cinema, music, and the human psyche. Each piece carries its own story, mood, and color language. Alisa’s characters often stand out with their expressive gazes, free brushstrokes, and emotional tension, creating an instantly recognizable signature style.

From Fairytale Worlds to the Inner Universe of Characters

Alisa’s early works are dominated by a surreal and fairytale-like atmosphere. In her creations themed around Alice in Wonderland, we encounter mysterious characters, clocks, flowers, and dreamlike spaces. These paintings evoke a world where reality and imagination are seamlessly woven together.

“If you believe in yourself, the impossible becomes possible,” says Alisa, drawing inspiration from Alice in Wonderland. This philosophy has not only inspired many of her works but has also become an important guiding light on her creative journey.

“For me, customization is not just illustration. It is a way to make an object an extension of a person’s identity—an item in which someone feels more confident, freer, and sometimes even stronger,” Alisa shares.

Cinema, Pop Culture, and Contemporary Characters

The influence of cinema and pop culture becomes clearly visible in her later works. Through famous characters from The Matrix, Peaky Blinders, Vikings, and others, Alisa creates more than just standard portraits; she crafts psychological profiles filled with tension, strength, and internal conflict.

A turning point in her career was a special series of T-shirts created for a wine boutique. It was here that her art found its distinct direction, evolving from mere creation into a unique form of self-expression.

Alisa’s works are shaped by a combination of avant-garde thinking, expressionism, and symbolism. For her, the priority is not the external likeness of a character, but their inner world, emotions, and energy. Because of this, color, movement, and emotion in her work are often far more important than the precise reproduction of form.

Art and Fashion as One

In Alisa’s work, clothing is never just a background. The painting alters its very nature, turning it into a piece of art-fashion and contemporary art. Every single work carries its own concept, mood, and narrative.

While various artistic influences can be seen throughout her creations, the most vital element remains her distinct personal style. It is this exact signature that makes her works recognizable, special, and memorable.

It is with this unwavering faith that she continues to build her world—with slow but steady steps.

Ultimately, Alisa’s art serves as a reminder that art does not only belong in galleries; it can live in everyday life, walking down the same streets as people, and becoming a part of their story, memories, and identity.
