COGNISHIFT INSIDER, ISSUE 2, VOL-1 , ISSUE 02/25 OCTOBER ISSN: 3107-6556
Interview by Susanna Sedrakovna
Susanna Sedrakovna:
Lusine, could you tell us about your early life and where you come from?
Lusine Melkonyan:
I was born on August 14, 1999, in Noyakert village, in the Ararat region of Armenia.
After graduating from the local secondary school, I continued my studies at the Mesrop Mashtots University, in the Department of Design, specializing in Fashion Design.
During my university years, I discovered my creative potential, developed my own distinctive style, and strengthened my personal artistic signature.
Susanna Sedrakovna:
How did your professional journey begin after university?
Lusine Melkonyan:
After completing my studies, I began my professional path in the production industry as an assistant technologist.
Through diligent work and a strong sense of responsibility, I was soon promoted to the position of responsible specialist.
My work has always been characterized by dedication, attention to detail, and innovative solutions.
Susanna Sedrakovna:
What inspires your creativity as a designer?
Lusine Melkonyan:
The Armenian culture, with all its richness and diversity of expression, is the main source of my inspiration.
I have studied the subtleties of Armenian architecture, sculpture, and medieval art with the aim of creating a clothing collection that conveys the beauty of national identity in a contemporary format.
I have been especially inspired by the architecture of Khor Virap, whose symbolic and impressive elements I have incorporated into my clothing designs.
Susanna Sedrakovna:
You often refer to your designs as a dialogue between space and form. What do you mean by that?
Lusine Melkonyan:
By paying special attention to the combination of interior and architectural elements, I try to introduce a new aesthetic approach in fashion design — one in which clothing becomes a form of mobile architecture.
Through this concept, I reinterpret the delicate details of Armenian culture, integrating them subtly into modern garments — preserving tradition while presenting it in a renewed and dynamic way.
Editor’s Note
Lusine Melkonyan represents a new generation of Armenian designers who unite cultural heritage with innovation.
Her creations — inspired by Khor Virap’s architecture and the refined legacy of Armenian art — stand as examples of how national identity can be preserved and reimagined through design.
This conversation with Susanna Sedrakovna, her mentor at Mesrop Mashtots University, highlights Lusine’s vision of transforming fashion into architecture in motion — where every garment tells a story of memory, structure, and rebirth.
